A Japanese Story

Alyce of Blossom Heart Quilts is an Australian living in Chiba, Japan. We met through Quilt Club Australia and more importantly we are friends through Wombat Stew.

So when I had to make Alyce's ATC into a pouch, I had no problem scoping out her favourite colour and some relevant Japanese prints. I enjoyed making FMQ  sushi swirls on the back. How cute is this fabric that one of the Wombats sent me?

Inside I put some tiny hearts fabric.

Sunday Stash #81

Thank you to Audrey from Hot Pink Quilts who hosted Sunday Stash last week.

Next Sunday I plan to visit Kristy of Quiet Play in person. We are taking our kids on a week's holiday and will be returning home and passing through her town.

And so Alyce from Blossom Heart Quilts will be hosting Sunday Stash.

Inheritance Reds

I have a lovely older friend who recently cleaned out her craft cupboards.

She passed some traditional prints on to me.

Have you ever had fabric passed on to you?

Link up your stash additions below.

A Strawberry Story

Gina of Party of Eight is an American living in northern California. She is our honourary Aussie in Wombat Stew.

Gina and her daughter' s love strawberries. Gina's was the first pouch I made. I was safe using straight line quilting in a zig zag pattern.

Inside I put some more strawberries.

Chicken Coop Spring Clean

Spring has brought warm days in the 20s so I tackled the chicken coop.

We have a lot of native birds that feed around the chicken run and consequently they bring lice and mites to the chickens.

I had read online that a White Wash (builder's lime mixed with salt) is a lice and mite inhibitor.

I mixed up a batch for the inside of the chicken coop using 4 cups salt, 12 cups lime and 9 L of water.

The first mix was too runny and so I added less water for batch two.

It also brightens up the inside of the coop.

I also used some of the excess decking oil to paint the timbers inside the coop.
And sprayed the door.
There is more to do but it is looking better already.

Just in time for Spring!

Sunday Stash #80

Thank you to Vera of Negligent Style for hosting Sunday Stash Last week.

This week Sunday Stash is hosted by Audrey of Hot Pink Quilts so please head over there to link up.

Feathered Companions

Life around Highlands has been keeping me super busy these past few months. I find that I have less time for sewing. Managing house repairs and five acres is very time consuming.

The chickens have been keeping me company out in the garden this week. So I am dedicating this Sunday Stash to the chooks.

I found these two prints recently at Spotlight and bought half a metre of each.

Farmyard Prints

These two I inherited from my mum's stash a few years ago.

This one features some chickens.

This one features none!

So what's new in your stash this week? See you over at Hot Pink Quilts for the party.

Sprout Block

Being a member of QCA Bee #1 exposes me to blocks I have not seen before. This month Helen chose a Sprout Block designed by Tracey Jay Quilts.

Helen had a list of colours to choose from and I chose orange and teal.

Purple and Pink by Kate

I think that it is going to be a colourful looking quilt.

Blue and Red by Jane
Linking up late to TGIFF.

Last week's most visited post was Alyce from Blossom Heart Quilts. She met up with Molli Sparkles for a fabric shopping trip in Tokyo.

Kiddy Prints

My daughter loves mermaids. She dressed up as one for the recent Bookweek Parade at school.
A Mermaid, A Yeti hunter and a Soccer Player.

I found only 2 of these fat quarters at Spotlight in the $1 sale.

They are cute.

And for the boys are some retro cowboys and 50s prints.

See you over at Negligent Style!

Ripe Strawberries

Well Spring is sunny with light winds so far. September has followed on from the hottest August I can remember for a Winter. I think the second highest temperatures ever recorded for August in Australia.

My garden is full of blossoms and ripening fruit. The miniature strawberries are ripe for the picking. The regular ones are still green and growing large on the stems.

Kristy, Quiet Play, is head Wombat for Septemeber and has decided on a Spring Garden theme. So I have already pieced together her Sweet Strawberry pattern.

I cannot wait to see what other patterns that Kristy and the other Wombats come up with.

Linking up to the Paper Piecing Party over at Quiet Play today, where Kristy has lots of helpful tips.
